Nestled in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, just a stone’s throw from the bustling town of Gatlinburg, Tennessee lies the Roamstead campground—a haven for campers seeking both adventure and tranquility.
Our recent stay at this picturesque spot was nothing short of magical, offering a blend of natural beauty, modern amenities, and the kind of peace that can only be found in the great outdoors.
Arrival and First Impressions
From the moment we pulled into Roamstead, I knew we were in for a treat. The friendly staff greeted us with warm smiles and chocolate chip cookies! The check-in process was smooth, and we were quickly directed to our site, which was spacious, well-maintained, and perfectly situated next to the creek.
Accommodations
The accommodations are a delightful mix of rustic charm and modern convenience. Roamstead provides options for tent and RV camping, as well as cabins and yurts. Camp sites come equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, perfect for evenings spent under the stars. The nearby bathhouse for campers was immaculate, with hot showers and clean facilities that made camping comfortable without losing the essence of being in nature.
For those who prefer glamping, the cabins and yurts offer modern conveniences with the magic of the outdoors. And did I mention that they are pet friendly? Our little Ellie was even greeted with her very own Roamstead bandana 🙂
Activities and Amenities
Roamstead and the nearby area offer a plethora of activities that cater to all types of campers. For those like us who enjoy hiking, there are many nearby trails to explore. We spent one morning hiking the Cosby Nature Trail, and enjoyed following the beautiful stream and crossing several log bridge crossings during the hike.
Other nearby areas to explore are Maddron Bald, Greenbrier Entrance, Hen Wallow Falls, Mt. Cammerer, Hartford, Max Patch, Townsend, Vee Hollow Mountain Biking Course, and Sugarlands.
One of the most enchanting aspects of camping at Roamstead is the connection with nature. Each morning, I woke to the gentle sounds of the nearby creek and the birds singing. The campground is committed to preserving the natural environment, and it shows in how the sites were designed and laid out.
Roamstead offers a saltwater pool, a playground area for the children, and a pavilion and outdoor dining space as well. Community fire pits are also available for s’more roasting with newly made friends. While we were there, children’s movies were shown under the pavilion at night and an ice cream truck even made it’s way through the campground one afternoon 🙂
If that’s not enough, there’s also on-site dining, coffee, cocktails, and craft beer. They’ve truly thought of everything to make the most of your experience at Roamstead.
