Christmas in July: Decorating a Mini Christmas Tree with Vintage Charm

“This post contains gifted product from King of Christmas. All opinions are my own.”

Who says you have to wait until December to enjoy a little holiday magic? Around here, we believe that a bit of sparkle and nostalgia is always in season—especially when it comes with a vintage twist. Today, I’m sharing a simple and sweet project that blends cozy holiday charm with summery farmhouse style: a mini faux Christmas tree tucked into a repurposed vintage crock.

Whether you’re hosting a Christmas-in-July gathering, decorating your porch for summer guests, or just itching to get a head start on holiday crafting, this little tree brings joy without the fuss (or the snow).

The Idea: Christmas in a Crock

This project started with a vintage crock I found at a flea market years ago. It’s the kind of thing some people would pass over—but you know me, I see possibility in everything! Add a small faux tree, a few patriotic details, and voilà: you’ve got yourself a crock of summer cheer. My faux tree is the 3′ King Noble Fir from King of Christmas. Their trees are very realistic and excellent quality. Mine has 70 warm white LED lights, but it’s just as beautiful without them on.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • A small faux Christmas tree
  • Vintage or farmhouse-style crock (you could also use an ice cream bucket, enamelware pot, or galvanized pail)
  • Mini ornaments or handmade decorations (I found patriotic decorations at my local Walmart and dollar store)
  • mini American flags
  • Cotton batting or faux snow (totally optional!)

Step-by-Step:

  1. Anchor Your Tree: My tree was already weighted and the base was covered with burlap. But if you need to secure your faux tree in your base, use floral foam, sand, or rocks in the bottom of your crock and nestle the base of your tree in securely. You want it to stand tall without wobbling.
  2. Decorate with Mini Touches: Sticking with a summer, patriotic theme, use red, white, and blue items to decorate. If you prefer to make your own, use scraps of fabric (gingham, ticking stripe, or muslin) to make star or flags. Add ribbon for a special touch.
  3. Top if Off: I opted to not use a topper, but you could do a big red bow or even a large star.
  4. Add snow…… or not: If you’re going for full holiday charm, tuck in bits of cotton batting or faux snow. Or keep it summery and skip the snow—this tree still shines without it.

Where to Display It:

I chose to display mine in my front foyer with other summer decorations, but here’s a few other ideas:

On a vintage stool on your porch

Centered on a picnic table and add fairy lights

Nestled into a kitchen corner with a tray of summer treats

Styled in a guest bedroom for a whimsical surprise

It’s a conversation starter, for sure—and just the right size to bring festive vibes without overwhelming your summer décor.

This little tree reminds me that joy doesn’t follow a calendar. It can bloom in the middle of summer, in the most unexpected places—even in an old crock. So whether you’re crafting for fun or starting to dream about cooler days ahead, I hope this inspires you to celebrate a little early.

Let me know in the comments: would you decorate a Christmas tree in July? I’m already excited to decorate this beautiful tree for the Christmas holidays! It’ll be here before we know it, so make sure to order yours soon before they sell out.
