DIY Salvaged Wood Flag Holder < At Home in the Wildwood

Materials You Will Need:

Salvaged wood piece (choose any size or shape you like)
Paint (choose red, white and blue if you’re using an American flag)
Paint brushes
Small American flags (available at most craft stores or online)
Drill and drill bit

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare your salvaged wood: If needed, clean and sand your salvaged piece. This step ensures a smoother surface for painting and enhances the rustic appeal of the final product.

Decide where you want your flag to be in the wood piece and drill a hole into the wood with a drill bit.

Choose your color scheme: Select your paint colors. Classic red, white, and blue are traditional choices for a patriotic theme, but feel free to personalize it to match your home decor style.

Painting the wood: Apply a base coat of paint to the salvaged wood piece using a paintbrush. Let it dry completely before proceeding to add additional coats or designs. Get creative! You can paint the entire piece or just sections of it.

Design and Detailing: Once the base coat is dry, you can get creative with designs. Consider painting stars, stripes, or other patriotic motifs. Because I’m not good at painting stars, I went the easy route and put a star sticker from a craft store on my piece. This added another level of 3 dimensional design and I thought it turned out so cute 🙂 Alternatively, keep it simple with a distressed finish that lets the natural wood grain show through.

Attaching the flags: Insert your flag into the pre-drilled hole and place the flag holder in desired place. I made two different holders and placed them as a centerpiece in a patriotic table scape.
