How to Convert an Oil Lamp to Electric

an antique mantel is styled with an antique oil lamp that was converted to electric

Did you know that you can convert an old oil lamp into an electric lamp?

I saw this idea recently and had to do it! I was given an oil lamp that belonged to my great grandmother. Not feeling like it was safe to use any longer, I just used it for decoration. But then I discovered this kit on Amazon that can be used to convert one to electrical. Needless to say, I ordered one right away.

I also ordered LED filament bulbs so that the light would look more like an actual flame.

The first thing I did was remove the globe and the old wick and wash the inside and outside of the glass bottom and globe with warm, soapy water. After they’re dry, you’re ready to install the kit.

Simply follow the directions on the light kit and that’s all there is to it. So simple!

Then insert the bulb and put the glass globe back on.

Now I’m on the lookout for other antique oil lamps that can be converted to modernize them but also add unique lighting elements to my home.

Pin now! Save for later!
