Memama’s Homemade Berry Cobbler

Memama's homemade berry cobbler

I can’t think of a better way to start the summer season than with an easy, homemade blackberry cobbler. I was blessed enough to find my grandmother’s handwritten recipes years after she passed away, and among them was the easy recipe for her cobbler.  Her recipe calls for peaches or apples, but I’ve experimented over the years and blackberries and strawberries make this dish just as yummy!

All of her recipes were stored in an old metal index card box.  I made copies of them and put them in binders to share with my sisters.

This particular recipe was a little more difficult to read clearly, but thankfully, I was able to decipher everything. There’s not alot of ingredients or steps, so it’s a really simple dessert to make.

So if you’re looking for a quick, easy, last minute dessert for the July 4th holiday, you should really give this one a try.  You probably have all the ingredients on hand anyway.

Memama’s Homemade Cobbler

1 stick of margarine or butter

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup flour (self-rising)

3/4 cup milk

1 pint blackberries (apples, peaches, or strawberries)

Note: If using fresh fruit, cook in water and sugar until the right consistency.

I use canned apples and peaches and it still tastes great.

Preheat oven to 350 deg.

Step 1: Melt the butter in a casserole dish until melted.
